First Listen :: Ours.

Portland, Oregon duo Ours. perhaps have one rather big stumbling block to surmount: their name. Not just the name, which also happens to be that of a current New Jersey rock band, but the fact that they include a full stop after it - which you just know already is going to cause confusion.

Not that this Ours. - Natalie Aldarondo and Rex Moreno - who formed just thiz year, are likely to be confused musically with their namesake, for this is pure electronic synth-pop. And what lifts them above the gamut of electronic artists arriving every month is undoubtedly the distinct vocals of Natalie. Neither saccharine sweet or a whispered tone - as evidenced here on 'Sink With Me', the latest of five tracks they have uploaded over the last month - as most often heard, she works vocal acrobatics, twisting word formations in a style akin to the likes of Caroline Polachek, or Björk on 'Holy War', the second track below, as they work around Moreno's beats.

It will be interesting to see where there go from here. With the right exposure they could well transpire to be a name we'll be hearing a lot more of. Full stop.
