More New Sounds From Australia #3

Another Australia emerging music round-up.

BABAGANOUJ
'Bluff' is the new single from Brisbane collective Babaganouj. Hot on the heels of the success from their March single 'Too Late For Love', the self-described "Rock Band Brisbane", the Nouj are currently on the road promoting the single, the first ever written by the band's Harriette Pilbeam. According to the band if you listen closely enough you will hear the same synth sound used in Prince’s ‘Let’s Go Crazy’, because “You always got to add a little bit of purple to the mix.”

HALCYON DRIVE
Following on from the band’s upbeat lead single ‘Whitewash', Melbourne’s Halcyon Drive announce their latest single 'Apart'. Like its predecessor, 'Apart' builds on the duo’s unique pop sound - one guitar, one (and a half) drum kits, live loop experiments and “catchy as balls” pop hooks - building anticipation for the debut EP release later this year.

GREEN STONE GARDEN
Darwin alt-rock four Green Stone Garden release new single 'Steam' on August 18. Together since 2011, the alt-rock band has become emblematic of the Darwin music scene. They have received critical and industry recognition with the band winning the rock category of the ‘2013 Northern Territory Song of the Year Award’ for single ‘The Island’ and lead singer Mike Meston winning the Folk category in 2012.

THE LETDOWNS
Melbourne garage rocking quartet have just released their self-titled debut four-track EP last month. Formed last year, and sounding like a cross between The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys, this is one worth getting your ears around.

JESSE TAYLOR
Queensland singer/songwriter Jesse Taylor has just released new single 'In My Bones', a song which illustrates the idea of two different types of people in the world: one type, who get everything handed to them and haven’t learnt anything in the process of life;  and those who try their best but are often underappreciated. Jesse admits that the lyrics are an expression of something that he needed to say in a not-so upfront manner. “I was dozing off to sleep at around 2am in the morning and the melody for In My Bones just somehow magically appeared in my head, it was kind of weird.”

ARRIVALS
Brisbane pop-punk five-piece who formed last year out of three members of Brisbane band Sunsets.  Beginning a new year and a new chapter, Arrivals begun 2014 by supporting long time friends Malibu Stacy on their East Coast Australian tour throughout January/February. Released 'Driftwood' as their debut single from their upcoming full-length, 'Borrowed Time', preceded by just released new track 'Seekers'.
