Track Of The Day :: Boy Wulf - Nothing But Blue Skies

First thoughts when this dropped into our inbox was how it reminded us of Liam O'Donnell's (Various Cruelties) solo work. Which is no bad thing at all: the same kind of soul-silk vocal and layered texturing, blended with hypnotic beats.

Taking his 'Boy Wulf' moniker from his obsession with old poetry, namely the poem 'Wulf and Eadwacer', Tim McGiven is a 21-year-old New Zealander from Te Awamutu in the country's North Island. Since recording his first song on an eight-track at the age of fourteen, he has gone on to release his debut EP back in September,  in between studying for a Bachelor of Science degree.

The six-track 'It's Just a Nightmare' created a chilled synthpop soundscape with smooth, understated vocals over oscillating drum beats.

'Nothing But Blue Skies' is the title track - unveiled last Friday - from his follow-up EP, set for release on February 1 2015. More punchy, textured, with a crisp production, and some gorgeously glitchy glimpses, Boy Wulf looks set for a pretty fine new year we think.

Listen to 'Nothing But Blue Skies' below. His previous EP can be heard on Bandcamp.
