Track Of The Day :: Deathcats - Liquid Gold

One eighth of the forthcoming split EP between Deathcats and Ottawa four-piece New Swears (four tracks by each) is 'Liquid Gold' by the fuzzed up garage punk crew, Deathcats.

Even if you haven't come across them before, their name may provide a clue that they're not likely to be an easy on the ear listen. This is a pretty much full on assault for approaching four minutes, but one that we are decidedly of the opinion that we would like to hear a lot more of.

Perhaps the highlight of the EP, riffing out on a welter of energetic, punky guitar chords and rousing percussive melody and inscrutable vocal delivery of frontman and guitarist, James McGarragle.

Although formed in 2012, it's only been in the last 12 months that the Glasgow three-piece, who released their (well received) debut album, 'All Hail Deathcats', in June, have really started to come to the fore, playing T in the Park and Wickerman festivals this summer, as well as a recent live session on BBC Radio Scotland.

Deathcats play an EP launch show on December 5 at Stereo, Glasgow.

The Deathcats/New Swears split EP is released digitally and on cassette via Fuzzkill Records on December 5.
